Classic Buttermilk Fried Chicken

Tangy Slaw

Alabama White Sauce and optional hot sauce!

Ingredient List (have your ingredients ready for this class) : 

1 whole chicken, cut into 8 pieces (have your local butcher do this for you!) Chicken needs to be bone-in, skin on

2 cups buttermilk

2 cups flour

kosher salt, as needed

pepper, as needed

1 tsp. paprika

½ tsp. each garlic powder and onion powder

¼ tsp. cayenne pepper

3-4 sprigs fresh thyme

 

1-cup Hellman’s mayonnaise

¼ cup pickle juice or apple cider vinegar

1 ½ tsp horseradish

1 ½ tsp. whole grain mustard

½ tsp. smoked paprika

 

 

¼-½ head green cabbage

½ cup sugar

½ cup vinegar (white or cider or white wine)

 

About 3 cups of oil (such as Peanut, Canola, Sunflower)

A cast iron pan (preferably)

A cooling rack
